I have chosen to do my senior seminar project on neonatal nursing. My driving question is: What is the role of a neonatal nurse and why are they important to hospitals? This topic interests me because it is a possible future career goal of mine. In accumulating research I hope to achieve a better understand of what it takes to become a neonatal nurse. I will also research different diseases and disorders babies contract because the job of a neonatal nurse it to care for babies. I may also want to look into the percentages of neonatal nurse in hospitals. Funding for neonatal nurses may be low and I could research why it may be low. I will use Springfield's databases for most of my sources. I may also look at pediatric and medical websites. Other possible sources I could use are Montgomery County Community Colleges databases. For my project I would love to go into the hospital and volunteer at the neonatal facility, unfortunately I am unable to do so due to safety precautions. Therefore I have decided to possibly do a fundraiser where all proceeds will go to support neonatology in some way. My mentor will help me stay on track with this project. I tend to procrastinate and I know Matt will encourage me to complete my work and get things done on time so that I won't fall behind. Some challenges I may face could be not accumulating enough money from my fundraiser, falling behind due to procrastination, or not finding enough information to support my opinion. I plan on facing the problem with the fundraiser by starting it early so that if it does fail I can come up with another project or have another fundraiser. I plan on staying on track and handing things in on time and if I find myself falling behind I will contact Matt for support. Hopefully i will find enough information to support my topic, but I'm having trouble I will have to use all my resources and ask Dr. Valenza or Mr. Martin for help.
